My Volvo 740, 91, about 2 weeks ago started to stutter. It lost the idle rpm, the car just died. We were able to start the car, holding the idle about 1500 rpm, we drove it home. Since then, I’m unable to fix the car. I found several minor problems, but no smoking gun. The computer (OBD 1) is happy in both in 2 and 6 position, no error codes. I exchanged/cleaned/adjusted the following items… AMM, bellow, throttle body, throttle switch, ECU, fuel relay, I can not find any vacuum leak. The fuel pressure is correct, Im monitoring it with a gauge, I opened the fuel line, fuel is poring out of the hose. Now, I can start the car, it runs nicely for about 2 minutes, and then the idle starts to stutter again, eventually it gets worse and the engine stops. I checked the sparks, Im continuously monitoring it with a small neon light, it is there. Somehow, like it some electronics is heating up, and stops functioning correctly??? Guys, Im running out of ideas, could someone help me??? Many thanks Gabriel, with Volvos 89, 91 740, 97 960.
