Wow! The frustration level is getting pretty high on this one! I'm in the process of replacing the power steering rack on my 1991 240 but I've run into a snag. I can't separate the power steering pinion from the universal joint on the steering shaft. I've removed the clamping bolt from the universal joint and pried the slot on the joint open but the pinion still refuses to let go. I've used PB blaster and propane heat and have been banging and prying trying to free it up but no luck so far. Lying on my back in the driveway doesn't give me much room to work and I'm afraid to use too much force for fear of damaging the universal joint. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to this? Has anyone who has replaced the rack run into this problem, and if so how can I get these apart?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
