Washed engine, contaminated Air Mass Meter 900 1995

This is one for the rocket scientists. I washed my engine and as usual got water into the distributor. Took it apart, dried it. The engine would barely start or run. Went through the whole routine. No codes, must be in the ignition. New cap, rotor, some old trusty wires, nothing. Pulled the plugs, black. Ok, put new plugs in just to be safe, nothing. Started it with the AMM unpluged and it runs. Dies whenever I plug in the AMM.

So as a last ditch effort before going to my trusty junkyard for another AMM I pulled it and gave it a good rinse in carb cleaner as per the faq.

Put it back togeather and it runs fine! How could I have contaminated the AMM? I am at a loss to explain it.

Any ideas?

Drew
