I pulled the rear side panels off the '67 122 to check for rust on the inside of the rocker panels. What I found surprised me. On one side there was soft foam rubber, about 1 1/4" thick, cut to the shape of the exterior body panel and extending right into the trunk over the rear wheel well. On the other side was more or less the same thing but in 1" styrafoam. I have never seen this before and there is no reference to any sort of insulating material in any parts book I've come across.
I have to assume this was an "aftermarket" treatment for either thermal or acoustic insulation. BTW this was a California car originally. Anybody seen anything like this before?
Cheers,
Barry
