940 Stalling mystery still not solved-Air Mass Meter?? 900

Well after testing and retesting my indy Volvo mechanic could only surmise that the spontaneous stalling of my 94 940 was indicative of an AMM on the verge of failure. Not a cheap part by any means.
So after testing fuel pressure, checking all relays, replacing the fuel filter,
we went ahead and replaced the AMM.
What fails on an AMM? What do they rebuild? Is rebuilt vs new OK?
