Under the new ride for the first time 200 1992

Last night finally was able to get the 92 on the lift for the first time.

Found some good stuff, got some work done, found a couple of negative things, found a few more things to do.

Good things:

1) Front of engine and oil pan, TOTALLY DRY. A nice red color, in fact. When's the last time you got that on a used Volvo? A bit of oil leakage down the back from the valve cover gasket, not a lot to worry about. Amazing an engine can go 208K miles and not leak in that time.

2) Not a speck of rust anywhere. Incredible condition. Car was from PA, not exactly the desert southwest. Must have been garaged.

3) Front suspension all nice and tight. No issues with ball joints, inner tie rods, or steering u-joints. I already did sway bar links and outer tie rods along with the Bilstein Touring struts.

4) Trailing arm bushings good (surprise!)

5) Exhaust is solid. Replaced a broken donut shaped mount at the front muffler. Otherwise all solid and happy, though I do kinda get an exhaust roar from the front pipe when above 4000 rpm. Didn't find a leak.

The bad:

Gear oil leak from output shaft of the M47. Never seen a leak here before. Can't really be sure it's not out of the shift rod but it looks like output shaft seal. That thing sure does not look like a fun job. Correct me if I'm wrong but it comes out the other way? Seems the output flange is one piece with the shaft. Nope, not fixing that one.

Torque rod bushings are GONE. Front end of both torque rods essentially have no rubber. This is the next job. On the lift, the axle vibrates like a pendulum around the TAB's. Very bizarre, you'd have to see it to believe it. Totally free to move in one axis. I think this was shot on my 87 as well, hence the clunks.

There are dents on the rocker panels where the terrorists jacked up the car in the wrong place. Also, the trans crossmember has been bottomed out on, or jacked up under the bolts, and the frame rail is partly collapsed at the crossmember mounting bolts.

The reverse light wiring was wrapped right around the shift lever, and abraded away the blue wire up at the very top of the shifter. There's my short circuit. Looks like it needs a new harness.

Big surprise: It's got limited slip! I did not expect that at all. Axle ratio tag confirms 3.31 gears.

Last, today, I remounted the Group A wing that I used on my 87. Used a template this time, so the mounting was painless. Looks good. Will look even better with the Hydras on it.
