Hugh? Can't figure out 740 stereo wires.

So as some may know I just moved up from the 240's to this new-to-me '88 740.

The previous owner hacked up the car some and has a monster power wire going from the battery to the trunk I think. His "system" did not come with the car.

It seems as if new speaker wire has been run to bypass the amp and the car came with the "original" stereo that seems to have been taken out with either a set of dog dentures or maybe a small pry bar? Too bad as I would have been happy to put it back in and use it.

I did a search and found this link in the archives:

////////////////////////////////
And this is the info it gave me:

Memory : GRN/RED
Ignition Pwr : ORG
Ground : BLK
Illumination : GRY
Dimmer :
Power Ant. : RED
//////////////////////////////////

However upon doing some research I have:

Blue wire: powered when ignition is on

Large black wire: Ground

Yellow wire with spade terminal: Ground

Grey wire: Ground

Green wire: Makes dinger bell beep when it is grounded (really pleasant)

Red wire: nothing

Two small black wires: Nothing

Orange: Nothing

Nothing seems to supply power when the ignition is turned off. Also power to the red wire doesn't make the ANT operate like I thought is might.

Any help would be appreciated. Most of the links in the FAQ's are no longer valid.

ALSO:

If I need to get a new cheap deck how much wattage am I looking at to not overpower or underpower the four stock door speakers?

TIA
