I'm looking to transplant the M41 tranny from my P1800 frankenstein into my P220. I have an assortment of parts, but none of the same parts for the whole job. I think I get what I need through the BB, but I need some opinions and to check measurements on what size things should be.

Here's what I have:
1967 Twin Carb B18D P220 (122 Amazon) with M40 (no od) 1,3/4" diameter shaft, 3,1/2" diameter flanges (I have two - one spare, one installed). Car is partially restored. I plan to convert to a B20E D-jet in future and use as a daily driver.

1971 D-Jet B20E P1800 with M41 (with od), larger diameter shaft (Probably 2" diamater with 4" flanges). (Not acurrately measured) Excellent mechanicals, but not restorable - too much rust and bondo.

Short fore-shaft (1), 2" diameter, 4" diamter flange, 18,1/2" long from socketed end to the face of the 4" flange. From a 140 series, believed to be corect length, purchased on eBay.

Spare M40 Transmission (2) 3,1/2" diameter flanges (if I need to switch to a small output flange on the OD)



To do this conversion, I believe that I need:

A short 1,3/4" diameter, 3.5" flange fore-shaft. (I'd rather go with a stock shaft than get my 1.75" spare shaft cut up). I'll have to switch the flange on the output of the OD, but otherwise should be pretty easy to install.

I need a large diameter rear-shaft and a 4" diamter input flange for the rear differential. I suspect that I can swipe the flange from the P1800s rear-end. I'm not sure how much variation there is in length. My spare 1,3/4" diameter rear-shaft measures 30,5/8" from u-joint knuckle to u-joint knuckle.


As I mentioned previously, I'd rather just go with stock volvo parts than fool around finding a decent driveline shop and/or welding shop here. Someone offered to find the bits that I need, but needs measurements, and I want to bounce my measurements off of others who've already done this sort of conversion.
