Symptoms:

(1) CE light on. Scanner said " 0440, Computer has detected a fault in the evaporative emissions control system" or words to that effect.

(2) Wife (main driver of the car 44 miles a day) complains of a foul-smelling odor. I cannot detect it, but my sniffer is old.

(2) Exhaust has a new, different, and unpleasant smell to it.

(4) Read recently that hot weather (plenty of that here in Houston area) can cause the cannister to overload such that the usual process of removing accululated stuff (whatever it collects) cannot catch up.

Have you have a similar problem? Any ideas on this one?
