original brake booster: repair/rebuild 120-130

So the previous owner is giving me two original brake booster units that he had in his old parts bin. The original from my wagon was removed (likely because it did not work) many years ago and was lost. Currently the brake line goes from the master cylinder directly to the splitter junction on the firewall. I have the mounting braket and bolts.

Rumor has it that the original (Girling?) booster doesn't really do alot in terms of making the required pedal pressure easier. I know there is the new Lockheed unit, but I would like to install a working original booster to make things really nice and stock. More from an originality perspective if you know what I mean.

The boosters I am getting are likely not working. I note that there are these booster rebuild kits available for these units.

Questions:
Would I be safe to assume that if I use one of these rebuild kits, the original booster will "come to life?".
Has anybody rebuilt a booster with this kit (and what was your experience)?

thanks all. waggin.
