Can a shade tree mechanic remove the torque rods, remove the worn bushings and then press in new bushings? IPD Bushings?
My story . . . the local mechanic is saying that the clunk I hear upon starting is not a U-joint but the Torque Rod bushings are worn away. I suppose this makes sense considering my mileage. What doesn't make sense is that he is recommending replacing the Torque Rods with Volvo parts - not just replacing the 4 bushings ($600 including labor).
Meanwhile this mechanic is replacing my rear brakes. But I told him to hold off on the torque rod bushings.
I'd appreciate any tips / advise. Thanks to all.
