Challenge of the day 900 1996

I have a 1996 960. 150.000 miles. Sometimes, not very often, a loud and high pitch sound appears out of nowhere between 30 and 40 mph. Goes away at higher or lower speeds. This pattern continues for several minutes and then gone. I may not hear this noise again for days, even weeks. Then one day is the same old... again. What could be making the mystery noise? Thanks
