Installing motor in '88 780 700

I picked up a used motor and went through it before i put it in...

I'm trying to reinstall it and am having SERIOUS issues getting the engine to match up to the bellhousing... i can get within a half inch or so and it stops. After the fact it was suggested that the motor be pulled with the tranny, since that ship has sailed doesn anyone have any suggestions? I have checked to make sure that there arent anythings in the way, and i checked the splines on the inside of the TC and the input shaft and there are no signs of damage on any of them.

Any help would be appreciated.
