Fuel pump relay 200 1993

My 93' 240 is running great with 175,000 miles. I just read about somone getting stranded by a faulty fuel pump relay switch. He has the same model and mileage as I do and i wonder:
What is a fuel pump relay switch and
How do I know if it needs replacement?
The other writer said that his 240 just quit without warning.
