I am replacing the water pump, oil seals and timing belt on my 1995 940. With the old belt on, I rotated the crankshaft to the 0 position on the timing belt cover. There is a white dot inside the cam gear on one of the spokes that aligned with a raised mark on the rear belt cover. The cam was not moved from that position. As I am re-assembling, I notice a more conventional punched mark on the rim of the cam gear that appears to be directly on the other side (180 degrees) from the white dot on the spoke that lined up when the crankshaft was positioned. The intermediate cam gear has only the mark on the rim.

The rotor is in position to fire cylinder 1. I am assuming everything is OK, but this standard mark on the cam gear being 180 degrees out is troubling.

Would the recommendation be to put the new belt on and rotate the engine carefully by hand to insure all is well?
