fuel economy 200 1988

hi all,
last year about this time i acquired an '88 240 wagon to replace my 83 wagon after it got destroyed by a huge work truck (i wasn't in the car at the time)\.

the car has been fine until recently (last 2 months)it seems to be gobbling gas like crazy. fuel economy used to be just under 300/tank, now it's barely 200, so it's a big drop. i'm wondering what to check/replace, and in which order. i have checked tire inflation and my tires are properly inflated. , it has a new (year or two old) catalytic converter.

i'm not sure what to check first, but i'm willing to try if someone points me in the right direction. there's no visible smoke or anything coming from the tailpipe. on this car one thing that's weird is that the temp gauge never hits 9:00, it stays at about 7:30, but it's always been that way even when the gas mileage was better. i'm going broke with this thing!

thanks in advance for any suggestions,

susan
