IAC Valve Installation - Silly Question 700

My 1988 740 GLE (non turbo) was stalling out a few seconds after it started. On the advice of my mechanic and this board I ordered a new IAC valve. So I put in the new IAC valve but am not sure that I installed it correctly. The new and old valve have an arrow imprinted toward the top of the valve assembly (in between where the two pipes are attached). Here is the question. Is the arrow supposed to point toward the engine block or towards the driver side fender.
