Cooling fan issues 1997 S90/960 S90-V90

I had a problem with overheating and went to the Volvo dealership. They said I need to replace the cooling fan assembly. About $500 worth of parts and work. Question: Is replacing the cooling fan w/shroud going to do the trick? I can find that on ebay for about $100. If not, were is the best place online to purchase this item? Part#9142879.
