Ticking under valve cover 200 1989

Hello, my 89' 240 just underwent trauma when the front seal on the cam blew. Now, only about 1 quart of oil was lost before I noticed something wrong so the engine shouldn't have been damaged. So, the new seal is in, and I notice that there's a rythmic ticking (think old vw sound, or playing card in bike spokes) and it's coming from under the valve cover. When I increase speed, the ticking speeds up until I hit about 65 then the road noise is so loud that I can't really tell anymore. It's been about 500 miles since the seal change and I had to deal with bad alternator brushes in the mean time, is any of this related? How serious is the ticking? Thanks, any ideas are much appreciated

Thanks everyone! Matt in Maine 88 240 wagon, and 89 240 sedan (85 240 wagon for parts)
