Gas gauge test black to brown or grey/white 700

HI..does it make a difference which wire you use with the resistor ..the black brown or black to grey/white? The books I read say it should read 3/4 since 68Ohms is position 4 which is 3/4 tank. The link on here says it should read
1/4 tank...thanks...Jeffrey
