i987 240 Great car. no trouble (except for broken timing belt, and misc stuff) for the last 5 years.
It's my S.O.'s car, and she treats it like a large purse on wheels. That means it's really trashy inside. So, every year or so, when she flies out of town, I completely strip out the interior, remove the seats and carpets, scrub it and hose it down. I then leave it all to dry in the sun for a day. I also get to keep all the loose change I find (State Law #240). About a ton of sand and grit wash out of the carpets, and the velour upholstery responds to soap and water. BUT, here's the issue. Because I have the doors open for long periods, the $%^%&**&^%# buzzer/gong won't stop unless I close the front left door, or somehow disconnect it. I was able to find the buzzer, and the blue box it's in, but my question (finally!) is this. What happens if I simply remove it from the plug it's in ( I haven't done anything yet). If that creates more problems than it solves, can I simply open the blue box and disable teh buzzer part. Does this short circuit something else? Did Volvo make it so a person can't effectively make this annoying noise go away?
