My car gradually died on the highway the other day, and I coasted to a stop and it hasn't started since. My mechanic has it now, and has identified that there's no pulse signal telling the injectors to fire.
I'm wondering what the possible culprits are. I suppose the ECU is always a suspect. I know there's the small sensor by the #3 cylinder (I think) that sends the engine temp to the brain, and the brain then calculates the fuel required. I've seen these go and cause the engine to flood by dumping gas in the cylinders, but don't know if this would stop the pulse completely (I doubt it).
Any other candidates? My mechanic isn't really a Volvo guy, so if there's something obscure and unique about Volvo's I'd like to pass the info on, along with any diagnostics that might help.
Any help much appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott
P.S. This car will soon be for sale, if anyone is interested. Currently in Mass. I bought it in Texas, and have never driven it in the winter. Has 162k, but looks and drives like it has about 50k. White with beige interior.
