Please help me with my overdive problem 700 1989

89 760T

I have read the faq's, and am still not fixed in the OD dept. Hope someone can help.

I can hear the OD relay click on and off. There was a period where the OD would finally engage after about 7 miles of driving, and I could hear the solenoid click under the car - but no more. I replaced the solenoid with a used unit - still no go. Also replaced the relay with a used unit (the one I can hear).

I am thinking that one of my first moves should be to make sure that the solenoid is working. Can I apply 12v directly to the lead below the car and try to engage it. If it does engage that way, and the relay is clicking above - that would indicate that there is a break somewhere between the relay and solenoid - right?

Thanks for all help. I am very frustrated - but still have hope.
