Small clock not keeping good time and CRACKING? 200 1989

Hi all,

My small clock has started making a cracking noise, like glass breaking inside of it, maybe once an hour. Also I have noticed that when I leave the car, the clock does not keep good time. I bought a $2 digital clock to compare to the one in the car, and found that about an hour after I leave the car, the small clock will stop! I will come back from work or school to find that the small clock just stopped. It has been stuck at exactly 30 minutes past the hour several times, although it has stopped at other times, such as 47 minutes past and 24 minutes past. Is it possible the cracking noise is the crystal itself giving out, and that's why the clock doesn't keep good time? it's plugged into the back of the tach as it should be so I'm not sure what the deal is here. Anyone have this experience or know the cause? Thanks in advance.
