Why did they stop making 1800's ? 1800

What I heard is that C.P.S.C. Consumer Products Saftey Commission wanted push bumpers in '73.
OK can do. Then they said that the bumpers were too low,for '74. Volvo threw in the towel at that?
I always thought they should have put it on AWD and been 20 years ahead right then and there.
The BMW 2002,and Thunderbird made a come back. Why not put the 1800-ES on steroids to get a real
back seat, AWD, T-5, 17" wheels,and chrome-allusion blue/purple paint?
