I'm trying to sort out out my loose shifting at Ayeroll's suggestion. First stop the jammed reverse detente. When I first got the car it wouldn't go into reverse, so I pulled the detente trigger really hard and it jammed in the up position. Didn't bother me much, but it does make it even easier to miss 2nd gear, especially with the loose shifter bracket.

So I'm playing around with it now, and I managed to get the pullrod to part company from the trigger and the detente sleeve (clap clap for the handicapped), and now I have to pull the shifter off to find where it's gone. The pin holding it on had a screwdriver slot on each end and a rubber washer around it., so I turned both ends, and they came out a bit, then just turned. According to the Haynes it's a rollpin which has to be drifted. I don't want to smack it with a punch without being sure, did any of the earlier models have two little screws holding on the shifter, or are they all punched in?

Gotta get this sorted, because I can't get it into reverse now without reaching under the boot and pulling the detente sleeve up myself.
