Major -did I say MAJOR - ECC meltdown... 700 1990

It was a dark and gloomy night . . .

Actually, it was a few months ago when my wife (its her brick of choice, a '90 760T) reported that the AC had stopped working. The car has not been driven much since then. I discovered immediately that fuse #28 had melted and I thought that would fix the problem, but after repairing the board and replacing the fuse, nothing changed, and the fuse in fact blew in about 10 seconds. The ECC generated code for "major problem". The insulation on the +wire to the compresser was melted, so I figured the compresser had finally given up (220K on the chassis - new engine/trans/turbo at about 150K) and was prepared to upgrade to R134..etc.

Today, the indy shop (that I trust) informed me that the ECC power stage (which I think is located behind the controls above the Heat/AC "box") was fried along with "quite a few wires" that are part of the ECC, for example, the Low Pressure plug wiring at the condenser. Many questions: Would a siezed compresser do this damage if the fuse didn't blow? Since the car runs perfectly - except no AC, heat or air flow since the servo-valves are shut (the fan still works, tho!) - can I assume that there has been no other significant damage inside the wiring harnesses and run external wiring for the ECC? How do I check the servos? I've thought of prying the servos open, but that only allows air flow, and controlling heat I think is another issue.

I hate to send this car to the crusher - I finally got it in good shape (tires, shocks, tight Nivomats, Alpine stereo, perfect interior, synthetic oil & ATF and more) so any info, suggestions, questions I haven't considered would be welcome. Thanks.
