Early A/C: Is it worth it? 140-160 1970

Another question for the Brickboarders: I have the early air conditioning set-up (aprox. '70-72, the one that replaces the glove box) in my '70 164. It is complete and appears to have been removed from a wrecked car and installed and functioning in the mid Eighties. There is no freon and several of the hoses have cracks from age, but the compressor still turns freely. Is the A/C system worth keeping? Will I be happy with the cooling ability? Should I keep the York compressor or find a more modern unit? Are there any websites/buisnesses that have parts for something this old?
Any input is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick
