Dome light not going on when front doors are opened! 900 1995

We have a 1995 965 that we just bought off Ebay and we love it!

Within a week of having the car the domelight fell out of the roof lining. It revealed that one of the plastic mounting clips was broken along with one of the plastic mounting brackets. No big deal. I ran a screw into the plastic of the dome light near where the broken clip was and it was just enough to hold it securely to the mounting bracket.

My question: I reconnected all the electrical connections and the light works, but when the front doors are opened the dome lights do not come on. I read the manual and have the switches facing toward the rear of the car to have them come on when the front doors are opened. Is there something I missed when I reconnected everything?

One more question about the dome light. It appears to have some kind of sensor in the front of the dome. There is an electrical connection that goes to it and a clear tube of some kind. What is this?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
