My 1969 142s that I just sold to a friend less than 24 hours ago, died on him on the way home today. Yes, my face is red.
There was no spark and plenty of feul, so I checked the dizzy cap and found the carbon stem worn right down. More embarresment.
The rotor didn't have a metal tab in the center of it's top. Is that normal or did it expire and break off? The only metal was along the length of it to the tip, but again , not in the center of the top. I'm not as familiar with 140 ignition parts(obviously!), i'm a 740T suck.
On top of that, the coil was pretty hot. At one point, there was spark when I removed the ground spade connector off the coil, then later there was no spark. I believe the key was on the first time and not the second.
I measured the resistance between the neg and pos secondary terminals, it came up as 3.0 0hms. Is that normal? I looked everywhere for 140 coil specs with no luck.
Tommorow I'll hunt down a good rotor and wires, but should I be looking for a coil, as well? I understand that they are very robust and don't fail that often.
Could someone please post a way to test the coil properly, so I can try to rule it out as a problem or not.....
Thanks for the help!
Josh
