Does a dirty throttle body spell certian doom? 700

I have either a dirty throttle body or a dirty idle air control valve. If I put off cleaning these two parts will I find myself stuck wich a car that won't start, or will I just have to keep giving the car gas as I start her up.

Basically, how serious are my problems.
