alignment woes

I am burning through tires on the front of my car. Alignments only seem to last 5 or 6 months. Im tired of paying for them. Everything on the front end is tight so whats up. I once read on here that you can adjust the toe by yourself w/o an alighnment machine. Can someone explain to me how to do it Im tired off shelling out 60 bucks for alignments. Thanks as always Philski
