I really hope I get this one right. I am getting a high pitched squeal from under the car. (89, 244, manual tranny.) This noise begins about 40 mph and gets slightly louder as I progress the speed. I am think it might be the carrier bearing but have never heard the noise they make when going out. This is not a rough or grinding noise but just a steady squeal. Tried putting it in neutral with no change, also tried the brakes, no difference. I tried swerving from side to side while driving but again with no difference. It's pretty loud, even enough for a friend to hear it while beside me. So is it the carried bearing or a wheel bearing or an axel bearing or a u-joint? Or did my cat get stuck under the car...Max:>)
