Need advice - for replacing TD613 radio with a CD-player radio.... 200 1993

Hi. I've decided to replace the radio (TD613, called a "Tuner Deck" in the owners manual) in my '93 240 with another that has a CD-player. But while I'm skilled in wiring, etc., I admittedly haven't paid much interest to radios, so and I am not at all knowledgeable about components and such. As for the installation, I don't want a "boom box" like so many teens covet -- no extra speakers, high wattage, etc. -- and I'd like to keep the power antenna function, too. In other words, I'd keep the radio as is were in not that I'd like to play CDs.

So now that I have made this decision I have some questions:

1) I've seen references on this forum to an "amplifier" located elsewhere in the center console. Does anyone know whether the TD613 is entirely self-contained, or that there is such a separate unit somewhere. And if so, what would that mean for the choice of a radio to install -- what do I need to look for to replace it (a complete plug-in radio/CD player, or else just a tuner that interfaces with some separate component amplifier)?

2) Anyone have suggestions as to a nice radio/CD-player that will make a clean replacement (i.e., not a lot of modifications/fabrications necessary)? I'd like to keep the OEM wiring (and use the OEM amplifier if there is one) if it's possible to find a compatible radio.

3) There are different sizes: what size is the radio, to know what to ask for in a store?

4) And if I haven't thought of all the possible questions, what else should I know to make a selection?

Thanks all.
