Voltage from AC Compressor power connector when engaged? 900 1995

I'm in the midst of replacing my AC compressor and other assorted AC items, but its been going slowly as its now October. I've left the new compressor unplugged as there's no refrigerant in the system right now. I hooked up a voltmeter to the power cord that is supposed to get plugged into the compressor, turned on the car, turned OFF the AC/OFF button, and tried to get a reading, but... nothing.

Is there a certain voltage that's supposed to come through the AC compressor power cord? The AC fuse is ok, but I may try replacing it anyway. Any other electrical failure points I should consider? Is this even a valid method for testing power to the AC compressor?

Thanks in advance,

Kip
