Qustion on stereo amplifier under steering column 900

Hi Guys
Does anyone know if these amps often fail or are they fairly reliable? I have re-wired up an original CR-702 stereo into the amp but I get hardly any sound from the speakers. Its as if the amp is not amplifying the sound at all-as if its not on.
I tried to see if the fuse for the amp had blown but there does not seem to be a separate fuse for the amp on the fuseboard.
Has anyone had any similar problems with their amps? HAs anyone's failed like this?
