looking to purchase a 940 or 740 advice-tips?

hello all, i am new here but post at mercedesshop forum. my wife and i are looking at getting a volvo. she has had one in the past, and likes them.

we are currently looking at a couple of 940's and 740's. thinking early 90s. wagons. what are some things to watch for on these cars?

are they all turbo?

how durable are the auto trannies?

i looked at some 850's but they dont seem like too much fun to work on. the engine is in there sideways:)
i turn most my own bolts, so it seems a 4 cyl rwd is pretty easy to wrench on.
