Ok,
This car was bought after sitting in a barn for a year and a half. The owner said it ran fine and rich when he put it away, thought the rough cold start could be a leaky injector.
So, when you start the car, you have to hold down the peddle half way, and rev for a while till it warms up/clears out. Then the car runs really rich, you can smell it, and runs rich all the time. On the freeway it runs rich, around town, sputters a lil here and there.
So the Air Mass Meter DOES affect the way the car idles. I read on here, if you dissconnect it, and it doesnt do anything, that means its bad. when i pulled the plug on it, it messed up the idle further, and the car sputtered.
The car will idle fine once warmed up, but the car ALWAYS burns rich, and the smell of raw unused fuel is aparent. The gas milage is way off, and it seems to eat gas all the time.
The throttle is responsive, however there is a delay from idle to rev the engine, i suspect it needs a good cleanign as the owner told me it did.
He also pointed out a slight misfire when you first start the car, and it can be heard when you rev it up to keep it goin....
There is no black smoke that i can see, just the strong smell of raw gas.
Other than this issue, the car runs great, even though its extremely rich, and doesnt really sputter unless you gas it from the stop, it hesitates a lil.
thanks for your help guys...
Lee
ALSO, sometimes the oil indicator light on the dash will glow for a bit on acceleration, then goes away once you are at speed.....
