1995 960 rough when air pump cuts in 900

my 1995 960 will run and start perfect but when the air pump cuts in the engine will run very rough and may cut out but when it warms up a bit it runs perfectly smooth and of course the air pump is off and no check engine light at all thanks for any help Peter
