Check engine light and timing belt questions 93 945 900

Hi!

The check engine light came on in my wife's car this morning. I checked socket 6 (regina system) and found code 1-4-3 which means the computer is not getting a signal from the knock sensor. There is a lot of info in the FAQ about this including to check the wiring. Is a wiring problem that common? I'm not sure where the ignition computer is to even start ringing out wires. I feel like just shotgunning a new sensor in there. Is this foolish? I disconnected the connector to the knock sensor and took the car for a drive (making sure to rev over 3000 RPM.) Then I hooked it up and did the same thing. The car ran great both times. No noticeable drop off in performance which seems weird. Any suggestions?

Also, I put a Volvo brand timing belt on 43,000 miles ago. I've always changed them at 45,000 but somewhere along the line I thought I heard the newer Volvo belts go 90,000 miles. Has anyone heard this? Thanks everyone.
