Midas in Reverse [rant] 200 1989

Went to Midas yesterday to get a new muffler. I called last week to see if they had the appropriate parts in stock and the manager said that no they didn't and that they'd have to order them but it would only take 2 days, at which point he'd give me a call. When five days had passed and he hadn't called I should've taken it as a sign to go somewhere else. But I didn't.

So yesterday I took my car in. What I got back was less than satisfying. I couldn't leave it there though because I only have one car and needed to make the 35 mile drive back home.

Here's the new muffler; it's roughly 2/3 of the size of the OEM that had been in before, plus it hangs crooked. I thought that they'd at least replace it with an OEM compatible muffler. Not only that, but the car sounds like I've got a sport exhaust on there (I prefer quiet idling/acceleration), and it vibrates on acceleration (of course this might be my old creaky suspension, which I'll be working on next week).

Here's the bang-up welding job they did. Looks like the tech had a seizure halfway through. Nice hanger too. Pfft.

I'm thoroughly frustrated. I want to go back in and have them redo it, but I'm worried that the workmanship will be just as bad the second time around. I also thought about ordering a Starla muffler, taking it in and having them remount it (without charging me), but they might do a shitty job on that too.

Any thoughts, comments or recommendations?
