bad starter solenoid? 700 1990

What are the symptoms of a starter solenoid that is going bad? I have a 1990 740T that on every 10-15 warm starts I get dashboard indicating lights but no crank what so ever. If I wait 15 minutes or so and try again the engine will start. It hasns't happened with my mechanic so he says he cant trouble shoot it. anyone have any feed back?
