strut bearing 200

I am a really tough on my cars and as a result they wear a bit more quickly. One of the items that I am absolutely tired or replacing is the strut bearing. They are expensive and don’t seem to last very long. Is there any reason why the bearing is surrounded by rubber? Why not fabricate a solid piece of aluminum or steel that would fit?

Thanks!

Andrew
