Mechanic says I need ne AMM. What do you think? 200 1992

My 1992 245 DL had a start problem over the past several weeks. It would start but soon after stall and most times restart after 10 minutes or so. I took it to the Volvo garage and they replaced the speed sensor, fuel pump relay and fuel pressure regulator. That didn’t solve the problem so they let us borrow a new AMM for 2 weeks to see if that would solve the problem. It ran fine for almost 2 weeks and then it wouldn’t start at all so we towed it over to them.

Now they claim the rotor was fried so they replaced it and the distributor cap and the car started fine. They told me I should also keep the new AMM which will cost me another $300. The car has 115,000 and the AMM was replaced at 60,000. I don’t mind putting the new one if that is part of the problem. Could the rotor go bad in such a short period of time or could this have been the problem all along? Would you keep the AMM? Any tips
