Not to belabor the issue, but I have determined that my steering slack is due to a badly deteriorated steering shaft coupler. I`ve got the replacement and am about to proceed.

Can I unplug the wire at the horn ring, steering wheel, or under the dash and not have to cut it at some point? I just need to pull it back into the steering shaft enough to remove the old coupler and fit the new one.
