fuel line replacement 200 1987

Does anyone know the correct size and a source for the hard plastic fuel pipe that runs under the body from the fuel filter to the front of the car (haven't looked yet at the front end but I'm suspect it connects to the fuel rail in front).

Dealer tells me it is no longer available from Volvo. I need to replace or repair this line on my 87 244 which my teenage sons use to commute to school. They told me yesterday that thay noticed the smell of gas and also that the car was going through a lot of gas. I was amazed when I looked under the car at how much gas was leaking from the line right where the plastic pipe attaches to the brass "banjo" connector. When I started the car to move it into the garage and get it up on ramps so I could get under and get a better look I was even more amazed when I saw the cloud of aerosolized fuel that was coming from a small break in the plastic pipe when pressurized by the fuel pump. My heart nearly stopped when I thought that my sons had been driving the car that way. Imagine the explosive fire that could have resulted if that cloud of fuel had ignited. I was able to cut a couple inches off the end off the line and temorarily re-attach it to the brass connector but I don't trust it at all and really want to replace the line - bad enough that I went straight to the volvo dealer this morning prepared to pay whatever they wanted for a new one - only to find out it is unavailable. Checked the local parts store too but they only carry rubber fuel line whichis clearly marked not for use on high pressure fuel injected vehicles.

Has anyone else dealt replacing this fuel line? Any suggestions other than looking for a good replacement at the junkyard?

Jim
