Erratic idle, accelleration surges and bogs down when cold,

Hello, all! I'm new to this, but figured it was worth a try since I love my Volvo (1984 244 DL, 2.3 litre fuel injected B23F) and I'm attempting to keep it alive with a college students shoestring budget.

Cutting right to the chase, my car will start immediately, but the idle RPM pitches slightly up and down. If I do not rev the engine upon starting half the time it will die and have to be restarted. I was thinking this was a fuel supply issue (or mixture), so first I replaced the fuel and air filters, then purchased some slightly used fuel injectors (less worn than my original injectors, where two of the four had cracked plastic tips). Next I replaced the fuel pressure regulator. The rotor, cap, and plugs are new. The wires are about 3 years old, but are apparently in good shape.

Once the engine is warm the acceleration smoothes out when shifting between 1-3, but is still initially sluggish. It really lags off the line.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? Is this a common problem for this model/engine? AND, are there any common fixes/flaws that I might look into? Fellow Volvo enthusiasts, unite! Help me... ;-) Thanks in advance for any ideas you may be able to share. Have a fine weekend.

-Andrew
