Engine heater for 92 960 900

Has anybdy had any experience with engine heaters for a 960. Which the best? Oil pan pads, Lower radiator hose (what is the size of a 960 lower radiator hose?), in-line heater hose heaters? My 960 has 180,000 miles and when it's really cold my lifters start tapping. When it warms up they quiet down. I want to avoid further damage and would like my car to survive this witer. Any ideas?
