moisture in trunk 200

I was moving things around in my trunk and happened to notice substantial moisture on the carpet mat. I don't see where it could have come from--no rust or anything unusual. It's only damp where the fuel tank is. It's not damp on the right side where the plastic cover is. Haven't taken the spare out but last time I checked (about a month ago) there was no moisture. Where could this be coming from?
