I bought our family (teenage sons) a 1993 940T with 175,000 on it the price was low due to what I thought was AC removed, bad tires, and needed brakework.
I discover that the electric overdrive was not working 100% of the time. Replaced the solenoid valve in/on the tranny, did not solve the problem, it still was only shifting to OD once and a while. Then I also replaced the relay in the center consul. After I did that it could be coached into OD when pulling thru the gears and quickly letting up on the gas.
The transmission is very smooth thru ALL the gears but now only 10% of the time can I get it in final gear. This of course is gas guzzling when driving over 50 mph. I got great compression (put new head on) brakes are fine replaced struts, muffler, new tyres, etc. Car now has 189K miles on it and now that the last son lives at college I like to drive the car instead of the minivan.
Does anybody have any advise what this intermittent problem is with this AW71 transmission and how to solve it?
Or does anybody have an AW71 laying around that I can buy for replacement?
